I really wanted to support it in the wake of the criticism it received, but it just wasn’t well executed from a writing standpoint. However, I’m disappointed to say that this book was very meh for me. The story took it very seriously, and I think without those elements, this story truly would’ve lost a lot.
I have to say, I personally didn’t see the trafficking and indentured servitude (which is what the slavery line was edited to become) as undermining anything. After hearing this scrutiny, and seeing that it all came before the book was even published, I wanted to read the story for myself. Obviously, it didn’t stop the publication of the story, but it did push back the release date.
